Republican Senator David Luechtefeld, Assistant Minority Leader, voted to open the Cavel horse slaughter plant in DeKalb, Illinois, so that up to 100 horses per day could be slaughtered, and their meat sent to foreign countries. The Cavel horse slaughter plant opened in June, 2004.
