Illinois Senator Brad Burzynski was both vocal and determined to open the Cavel horse slaughter plant in DeKalb, Illinois. The Cavel horse slaughter plant, which opened in June, 2004, reportedly anticipates slaughtering as many as 100 horses per day, with the horse meat being shipped overseas where it is considered a delicacy.
