offers details of this program.

"Used pickup trucks were provided to participants in exchange for their horses and a legal pledge that they would never use working animals again. The program was designed to help alleviate animal suffering by getting working animals off the streets while providing villagers and their families with a humane and more effective means of generating income."

All right, then, does anyone see a group with the following of NASCAR organizing any efforts on behalf of our own horses back here in the U.S.A.?

Not yet.

Recently, Ford Motor Company generously donated $19,000 toward the expenses of transporting and caring for American mustangs rescued from slaughter.

By enlisting last-minute financial help Monday from Ford Motor Co. - makers of the Mustang sports car - the agency saved the lives of 52 [other] mustangs.

Mustangs headed for the Cavel International slaughter plant in DeKalb, Illinois, were provided assistance by Ford to aid in the transportation to rescue facilities, instead.
